Vriana is Our Hero in the Dental Chair

Vriana

Nine-year-old Vriana has been coming to see Dr. Alonso in CDTC’s Dental Clinic for most of her life; six years to be exact. During Vriana’s first visits to the clinic mom would lift her little girl out of the wheel chair onto her own lap. Today, Vriana’s big enough to sit in the chair on her own.

Living with Spastic Cerebral Palsy (CP) has been a challenge for Vriana and her family. This form of CP has increased Vriana’s muscle tone, making movement extremely difficult. Yet, Vriana does her best to be helpful to her Dental Team.

“Patients with CP can get stiff,” shares Dr. Alonso. “But, Vriana tries really hard and she always has a good attitude. It’s why I really wanted her to be our Hero.”

Mom is proud that Vriana has learned such good oral health habits. Vriana knows how to thoroughly brush her teeth on her own thanks to her Dental Team. That’s one less routine for her parents to struggle with at home.

Vriana and her brother both come to CDTC for Medical and Dental Care. Mom appreciates the way the kids are treated by Drs. Alonso and Robinson and the entire clinic team in the Primary Care Center. The family also has the strong support of their Care Coordinator Clara in the Extraordinary Children, Healthy Outcomes Program.

CDTC may be a little bit of a distance from their home, but the trip is always well worth it. To mom, the staff has more patience and don’t rush their work simply because there are a few tears. Dr. Alonso and her team are especially loving and patient with Vriana.

Celebrating Children’s Dental Health Month

About our Hero of the Month

Each month, CDTC staff nominate one of our children as our  Hero of the Month. These special boys and girls are heroes in our eyes. They show strength, perseverance, determination and a positive outlook while facing great challenges.

Their stories are powerful and heartwarming and reflect the impact CDTC and you, our community, has on their daily lives.

A trip to our Clinic is more than just a doctor’s visit to a child with special healthcare needs.

But, insurance doesn’t cover everything. That’s why your gift is so important.
