Twin brothers Osiris and Odin came to CDTC when they were a few months old. Born at only 28 weeks, the premature babies needed medical care and early intervention services. Both were having feeding issues. Both needed extensive medical follow-up. Without help, they were at risk of developmental delays following several months in the NICU.
First time parents Angie and Enrique were grateful when the staff quickly provided solutions. The boys’ medical and nutritional needs were being met.
The twins were in good hands. They now had a CDTC care team of doctors, nurses, social workers, health educators, nutritionist and early intervention professionals. And, the Center’s Pediatric Dental Clinic would round out their care.
Their seven-year journey has been a long one. Luckily, mom knows she can always call the Center’s Telephone Triage for immediate medical concerns. And, her care coordinators are always there to help navigate the healthcare system and access other medical services the boys need to thrive.
With encouragement, support and guidance from the boys’ team, Mom and Dad are confident they can make informed decisions about their sons’ care.
“Don’t give up,” is Enrique’s greatest advice. “Realize that your child is not broken, just different. Because they will surprise you and rise beyond expectations.”
Today, Osiris and Odin are happy boys engaged in school and learning. The brothers are growing into their own distinctive personalities. One excels at math and the other is more artistic and expressive.
The boys have come so far since their first visit to the Center seven years ago. Every day there are still doctor appointments, blood work, medications and tests. To them, this is life. They just smile and move on without a care in the world.
“I wish I had that kind of strength,” shares mom.
